Launch Patches and Ports

Sbug Games shipped Webbed in a polished state, then spent the first two weeks chasing the bugs that only thousands of spiders can find. This page is a player-facing timeline, not a dump of internal commit messages.

9 September 2021 — PC launch

Steam, GOG, and Humble storefronts opened. Features called out at launch: nine languages, full controller support, Steam achievements, Steam Cloud, the custom web mechanic, an open bush, and skateboards. The game is single-player. It remains single-player.

13 September 2021 — Hotfix v1.02b

Achievements stopped unlocking for some PC players in the first weekend. v1.02b restored them. If you 100% the game on a dusty 2021 save and a Steam popup never came, replay the last trigger (equip the helmet, dance, roll the ball) on a current build rather than assuming the trophy is deleted.

A neighbouring small update fixed miscellaneous bugs and upgraded the hat button — the secret dunghill switch described on Hats and stickers. If an old guide’s hat list looks short, you are on post-upgrade behaviour.

22 September 2021 — Update v1.03

A further small patch. Public notes were light; players reported stability and quality-of-life rather than new biomes. There was no second campaign.

2 February 2022 — Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

Same Webbed: Buddy, moth, three colonies, balloon, bowerbird. Full controller prompts. Localization handled with Altagram. If you only own a console, you are not missing a PC-only story chapter. You are missing easy keyboard weave aiming, which some people prefer anyway.

Steam Deck Verified arrived later as a Valve compatibility label, not a gameplay patch. System requirements on PC stay tiny: Windows 10, 1 GB RAM, 250 MB disk.

What did not happen

  • No PvP, no multiplayer, no live ops.
  • No map rewrite. World map geography is stable.
  • No achievement inflation. Still 19 on Steam.
  • No Roblox crossover. Wrong game.

Soundtrack DLC is optional audio. It does not patch the platformer.

How to stay current

Watch Sbug Games on X and the Steam news hub. This wiki will not pretend a 2021 physics game has weekly notes. If a new hotfix ships, the facts file on this site will move first, then these paragraphs.

Play the game you have. Use Guides for silk, not for patch anxiety.

Platform checklist after a reinstall

  1. Confirm the build is post-v1.03 on PC (Steam will say it is up to date).
  2. If achievements are blank after a 2021 save migration, re-equip the helmet and dance once.
  3. Rebind weave if you use a weird overlay mouse bind; launch-week forum threads about “bridges do not work” were often remaps, not patches.
  4. Console players: you already have the hat-button upgrade. Hunt it on the hats page.
  5. Linux/mac stories from 2021 launch coverage may not match the current Steam Windows flag. If your store page only lists Windows, believe the store page and use Proton or a console instead of a phantom native build.

That is the entire support script for a game that needs 250 MB and one gig of RAM. When something still feels wrong, it is usually mud, not a missing hotfix — mud never took silk. Keep Steam Cloud on if you swap Deck and desktop; keep a copy of %LOCALAPPDATA%\webbed\ if you experiment with mods. Mods can break achievements, as community guides warn. Vanilla is the 100% path. Console players cannot install those mods, which is a gift. Play the walkthrough on whatever build the store currently serves — it is the complete game. If a friend is on Switch and you are on Steam, you can talk about the same rooms without a patch disclaimer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Webbed questions.

My Steam achievements did not pop in 2021. Is that fixed?

Yes — v1.02b restored them. Re-trigger the action on a current build.

Is the Switch version complete?

Yes. Same story and collectibles as PC.

Does Webbed require always-online?

No. Steam is DRM-free if you launch the exe directly; GOG is DRM-free. Cloud saves are optional.
