Getting Started in Webbed

Survive the first hour without eating the wrong fly or rage-quitting a pipe puzzle.

New Player Getting Started

Webbed throws you into a tiny nest, teaches you to walk, then immediately asks you to feel like a spider. That first hour decides whether the physics feel joyful or slippery. This page is the on-ramp: settings, tutorial beats, the kidnapping, and the three errands the moth gives you.

Settings to change before you swing

Open options once. If you want the Virtuous achievement, disable auto-eat so Buddy does not snack on flies you walk across. If real spiders make you tense, turn on arachnophobe mode — the game swaps eight-legged silhouettes for round blobs and keeps every mechanic. Full controller support is on by default; keyboard players should still glance at Controls because weave (right-click) is easy to confuse with swing (left-click).

The nest tutorial

Move with WASD or the left stick until your boyfriend spider pops in and dances. Press Q (or LT) to dance back — this is not flavour only. Strictly Bugroom later asks you to dance with every species, so get used to tapping it when you meet someone new.

Left-click fires a temporary silk line. Hold to zip along it; release to drop. Right-click plants the first anchor of a lasting web. Keep holding, aim at a second surface, and release to throw the other end. That second web is how you build bridges, lash pipes, and assemble the mecha-ant. E (or RT) shoots eye-lasers that break planks, cut bad silk, shove objects, and later annoy a bird.

Talk with F. The journal is Tab. When the bowerbird attacks, the game forces a laser beat — it is a scripted theft, not a fail state. After the boyfriend is gone, walk forward into The Tree.

The moth’s plan

Patches the moth lives in The Tree, the hub that connects every biome. Talk to him. He wants to recycle an old silk nest into a hot-air balloon that can reach the Sky Bower. Three colonies have to help:

  • Ants below the tree supply labour and eventually a walking machine.
  • Dung beetles to the west supply concentrated fuel.
  • Bees to the east patch the balloon and, if you deliver pollen, provide a flying escort home.

You can visit them in any order. A calm first run is ants (puzzles, larvae), dunghill (momentum and mud), bees (vertical swinging and pollen), then balloon. The walkthrough follows that path with fewer spoilers for optional stickers.

Movement habits that save later rooms

Do not treat every gap as a swing. If a room has spikes, mud, or a long return path, weave a bridge so you can walk back. Jump as you release a grapple for a small height kick. Lasers have recoil — a tap while airborne can nudge you onto a ledge. Leaves in The Canopy act as gliders when you web them. None of this is required for the credits, but web mechanics is worth a read before The Dunghill’s frictionless slopes.

What not to grind in hour one

You can catch flies, pocket baby spiders, and grab pollen as you go. You do not need 100% before the balloon. You should, however, decide on flies immediately: eat none for Virtuous, or plan to eat all 48 for You Monster. Mixing those on one save is impossible. Map dots stay dark until a screen is complete, so peek at the map tool if a room feels empty but the journal still lists a collectible.

After the first colony

Each colony returns you to The Tree with a new resource. When ants, fuel, and bee repairs are all marked done, web the motor under the balloon neck and lash a platform to the silk bag. Launching is a point of no return for a few story beats, but you can keep exploring afterward for stickers, the skate park, and leftover larvae. If you feel lost, open the characters hub to remember who wanted what, then jump back into the walkthrough.

Webbed is already out on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. There is no multiplayer, no live-service code, and no reason to rush. Dance, swing, and only then worry about hats.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Webbed questions.

Should I play Webbed with a mouse or a controller?

Mouse aiming is precise for weaving. Controllers feel better for long swings. Both are fully supported — see Controls.

Can I do the bee area first?

Yes. The moth's three errands are optional in order. The walkthrough just recommends ants, dunghill, then bees.

When should I turn off auto-eat?

Before you leave the nest if you want Virtuous. Details are on the achievements page.

Is the opening bird fight a boss?

No. It is a scripted kidnapping. The real fight is later in the Sky Bower.
